The Wicomico Public Library wants to build a 21st Century Main Library on City parking lot 10, site of the weekend flea market. It offers the high visibility, excellent access and onsite parking needed for the facility to succeed in providing the services that the citizens of Wicomico County want and need. In addition, it is located in the Historic Downtown and the Art & Entertainment District
- High Visibility. Lot 10 is highly visible from Rt. 13 business and Rt. 50 business, both heavily traveled.
- Excellent Access. This site provides excellent access from the surrounding region, from three sides. Current roadways, traffic directions and traffic signals would easily accommodate any additional traffic.
- Onsite Parking. Lot 10’s near three acre size and 18’ vertical drop allow ample space for the building footprint and onsite parking, possibly some under the building. Onsite parking is the number one concern of library customers.
- Location, Location, Location. Our experience with branch libraries in Pittsville and at the Centre at Salisbury, proves that high visibility, excellent access and onsite parking dramatically increase usage. As people live, work and shop they combine their trips over busy corridors. Putting the library where they can see it in their daily travels will introduce more children, teens, and adults to the resources and services we provide to support learning, build community and enrich lives.
- Return on Investment. Lot 10 has all the necessary qualities for a site to build a successful 21st Century Main Library. This will provide the greatest number of citizens of Wicomico County with the services they want and need, and ensure a maximum return on the investment of taxpayer funds.
