These renderings show what a Library in Beaglin Crossing could look like, in context.
We (Grimm + Parker Architects) have designed what we believe is a dramatic, inviting, and beautiful building that will be a new landmark in Wicomico County. This new Library will be the kind of visually stunning building that people want to bring their out of town relatives to visit.
(We) worked on developing a vision for the new library that we hope will give people a sense of a very sustainable and optimistic future. We are excited about this design concept that we have developed - we think it could be a gorgeous addition to the Wicomico landscape.
The building pictured is clad with a product called "Trespa" - which is a striking cladding material that is a state of the art "rain screen" - which is in keeping with our very Green theme and the sustainable design aspects of the building.
The building will have a vegetative green roof and solar glass for the windows (which will be transparent and will reduce UV penetration and Infrared Heat Gain), a sweeping curving facade that draws people from US Route 50 to its entrance, and it will be a glowing beacon at night, drawing visitors in from all around the County. The building layout is organized to be a highly functional, very serviceable public library with the Eastern Shore Regional Library as a prominent resident as well. At the entry side to the library, you will see a heavily landscaped parking area that contains many bio-swales in the islands to manage rain water and parking lot run off (in accordance with new environmental design regulations from the State). You will also see a visually prominent drop-off canopy along the front curb to welcome visitors by car or school bus or senior visitors arriving in vans.
This is envisioned as a LEED Silver design.
We believe this particular design could be one of the most exciting library designs in the entire state of Maryland. We believe that we have uniquely tailored this design to this specific property, location, and program. As a regional library, this new building will draw folks in from all over the region and deliver exciting, state of the art services in a beautiful, friendly, inviting setting. As you sit in the reading areas of this new library, located along the beautiful glass walls facing outwards, you will look across a water feature / pond element and out to the natural environment. We think this experience will keep visitors coming back for years to come. |
