Library Card and Borrowing Policies

How to Get a Library Card

Free library cards will be issued to anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Maryland and anyone who lives in Delmar, Delaware with a zip code of 19940.  Cards are issued at the main library, the Centre Branch, the Pittsville Branch, and the Bookmobile. In addition, library card applications can be made online.

Out-of-state residents must pay an annual $15.00 fee.

When you apply for a library card online, you will be immediately issued an identification number that can be used to sign in to the library’s online databases and to place reserves on library materials. Before you can borrow materials or use the computers in the library, you will have to present your identification and pick up your library card at the library or nearest branch. Please remember to tell library staff that you have already registered online.

Proper identification showing current address is required. A Maryland driver's license or Maryland MVA ID is preferred. Call the Library at 410-749-3612, ext. 31 to inquire about other acceptable forms of identification.

Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when applying for a library card. The parent/guardian must show identification and sign for the child. Youth under age 18 must have signed permission of a parent or guardian in order to borrow videos, dvd’s, or computer games.
