Wicomico Public Library
A Safe and Pleasant Library for All!
We are happy you have come to your library. To ensure a Safe and
Pleasant Library for All,
we need to ask your cooperation.
First and foremost, please realize that the staff of the Wicomico
Public Library cannot accept responsibility for the safety, care
or supervision of children using the library.
For the sake of other library users, children who exhibit behavior
inappropriate for the library may be asked to leave the building.
To avoid this kind of unpleasant encounter, we ask parents and care
givers to observe the following guidelines:
•
Please provide your children with a basic understanding of proper
behavior in the library. This will help our child understand the
rights of the other customers who are using the library for reading,
research and browsing. If you would like the Librarian to help
you do this, we would be glad to....just ask!
• All children up to six years old must stay with their
parent or care giver to ensure their safety and proper behavior.
• Children six to eight years old may be allowed the opportunity
to use the library and its resources independently, for short
periods of time, provided the parent or care giver remain within
the library and provided the children exhibit appropriate behavior.
• Children nine years old and older may be allowed to use
the library independently provided they exhibit behavior appropriate
for the library. But, please be aware, the library staff cannot
accept responsibility for the safety, care or supervision of your
children.
• Adults bringing church, daycare or other community groups
to the library are responsible for the supervision of the children
in their care. Please provide your group with an understanding
of proper library behavior. Just ask if you would like a Librarian
to talk to your group about library rules.
