Technical Services Assistant II

Wicomico Public Libraries seeks an individual who is a detail oriented self-starter for our Technical Services department. The successful candidate should be able to meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision and be familiar with managing information within a database.

The Technical Services Assistant is responsible for working with the members of their department to see that new library materials are received, properly processed and cataloged and delivered to the public services departments in a timely and accurate manner. Library experience or training, especially in cataloging or technical services is a plus. Experience in the Polaris platform is highly desired.

This is a full time position which has full benefit package including healthcare, retirement and paid time off. Salary range is $22,000 – $28,000 based on education, experience and ability. Position is based in the Downtown Library. Hours are Mon-Fri 9-5, with an occasional evening or weekend.

Job Summary: Assists with all aspects of processing of Library materials and assists with office responsibilities as needed.

Essential Functions:
1. Receives new library materials and prepares materials for processing (spine labels, covers, etc.)
2. Assists Acquisition Specialist in ordering materials and processing invoices
3. Catalogues and copy - catalogs Library materials as assigned
4. Maintains and orders processing supplies
5. Participates in database maintenance; assist department in facilitating improved searching capabilities
6. Responds to inquires by library visitors, on the phone , via email, and in person
7. Enters and edits meeting room reservations
8. Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Data entry skills, attention to detail with exceptional accuracy, ability to follow directions, problem solving skills , self - motivated, must work well as part of a team, good communication skills on the phone, via email and in person.

Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc.: None

Supervisory responsibility, if any: may supervise volunteers

Education and Experience:
1. High school diploma or equivalency
2. Six months relevant experience preferred , Library experience a plus

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Position based at Downtown Library. Able to handle moving and packaging materials or boxes up to 30 pounds. Ability to reach and bend to unpack and pac k boxes of books and to push loaded book carts
