What
is Next Chapter?
It
is a library project based on the emerging popular concept that
people 50 and older are living longer, healthier, more active lives,
are a rapidly growing segment of the community, and do not fit in
with the traditional idea of the "senior citizen".
Why
is it called Next Chapter?
Many
people 50+ have worked long enough to retire, are seeking second
careers, challenging volunteer or personal/professional growth opportunities,
are empty-nesters, have aging parents or relatives, and are interested
in spending the "found" years between middle age and senior citizenship
in new and exciting ways. The phrase "Next Chapter" is our name
for those years.
What
does the library's Next Chapter project offer for the 50+ community?
A
way to become aware that being in this stage of life can be a time
of learning and doing, whether it's about becoming computer literate
through our computer classes, discussing ideas and concerns with
others in the community through our book groups and forums, discovering
volunteer and travel opportunities, finding resources for financial
and legal planning, and related topics, through our 50+ programs.
Most importantly, the project emphasizes that being healthy and
well is a way of living that means giving attention to the whole
person, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically.
