Library
Tours
Library tours are a great
way to introduce children to their library. Teachers are encouraged
to schedule a trip to the library for their students. Call to schedule
a time and work with library staff to design a tour that will meet
your students' needs. Activities to include in a tour vary according
to the students' age and the assignment. Activities may include:
- walking tour of the library
- introduction to public library services
- instruction in using the online catalog
- introduction to using library's online databases
- story time program
- "book talk" program
- scavenger hunt type activity to explore reference resources
- targeted research time on specific topic or assignment
Tours may
be scheduled by public, private, or homeschool groups and by organizations
such as Girl or Boy Scout troups. All tours must be scheduled in
advance by contacting the Children's Department at the library (410-749-3612,
ext. 25) or by email at askus@wicomico.org. Please note that
there is a high level of demand for tours, and that requests will
be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. All requests for
tours must be confirmed with the Children's Staff.
Participation
in School Programs
Library
staff will participate, as possible, in school fairs, PTSA meetings,
teacher in-service training, school assembly programs, etc. Requests
for staff participation should be made to the Children's Dept at
410-749-3612, ext. 25 as far in advance as possible.
