The Wicomico
Public Library welcomes gifts of library materials
(books, audio and videotapes, DVDs, CDs, etc). They are accepted
with
the understanding that they are non-returnable and may be handled
or
disposed of in the best interest of the library. Donated materials
may be
added to the collection if they meet the standards set forth in
the
Library’s Resource Development Policy. The library will
acknowledge
receipts of gifts for tax purposes, but will not assess the monetary
value
of the gifts.
The above
policy covers both used and new materials.
The Library
has a long tradition of including donations into the collection.
Almost all of the paperback fiction included in the collection
is donated by generous customers. Used books and other items
that are not added to the collection may be sold, with the proceeds
going towards the purchase of new materials.
In addition,
customers have chosen to contribute to the Library collection
in honor of family members and friends. This is a wonderful
way to publicly honor and remember a person.
