The community's outpouring of support for the Building Our Library Together capital campaign has been overwhelming! Your support means so much to us, and we love to hear the stories for why you want to be part of creating this new library with us. Take for example the very generous contribution from Mike Rommel, who has given $250,000 for the Orpah Lee Rommel Local History Reading Lounge at the forthcoming Paul S. Sarbanes Library on Schumaker Pond.
Mike Rommel made the donation in memory of his mother, Orpah Lee, who was an English teacher. According to Mike, "She loved books, read all the time, and loved quiet." It's fitting then that her legacy will be honored through this special, new space that focuses both on intergenerational connections and a cozy reading environment. Equipped with comfortable furniture and an electric fireplace, it will be an ideal place for those looking to curl up with a good book. Just as importantly, it will include our local history collection, genealogical materials, and nods to the decoy museum past of the building.
Please join us in thanking Mike for this generous donation, which will do so much to enhance the patron experience of our new location at Schumaker Pond.
