Project Read with book shelf background.

17,000 people in Wicomico County read below a 3rd grade level. Project READ’s mission is to increase the literacy rates for adults in our community.

Project READ will provide free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring that will assist adults in becoming fluent in the basic skills associated with reading, writing, and math.

Become a Student

Adult learners must be at least 18 years of age and have reliable transportation. Tutoring sessions will be 90 minutes each and scheduled twice a week. To participate in Project READ, schedule an appointment to interview with the program coordinator.

Become a Tutor

Volunteer literacy tutors must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English. Tutors must be able to schedule sessions twice a week for 90 minutes each. To begin, submit a volunteer application. Potential tutors will be contacted to interview with the Project READ Coordinator and the library’s Volunteer Coordinator. Accepted tutors must complete orientation and training sessions.
