Wicomico Public Library is honored to share the news of a monumental $1 million gift — one of the largest in the library’s history — from the Richard A. Henson Foundation in support of the future location of Paul S. Sarbanes Library on Schumaker Pond, set to open in Summer 2027.

The Richard A. Henson Foundation’s leadership gift underscores its longstanding commitment to acting as a catalyst for positive change and opportunity in Wicomico County. The new Richard A. Henson Meeting Hall, a 2,200-square-foot space for meetings, events, and celebrations, is expected to be one of the most visually striking areas of the future library.

At the Library’s recent Design Reveal & Campaign Kickoff, Henson Foundation Chairman Greg Olinde reflected on Mr. Henson’s enduring philosophy: “Individuals and businesses have a social and humanitarian responsibility to improve the community in which they live.” Mr. Olinde further emphasized, "A library is such a critical component of what makes a vibrant community," and "Aside from being a book repository, our library offers technology, programs, and a multitude of resources for all. This new location with beautiful natural surroundings will be an inviting and welcoming place for residents to relax and bury their head in a book, conduct research... and socialize with others."
